The Story of Where We Came From.
After being dumbstruck with the diagnosis, we were all doing what we thought we "should" be doing. All for the sake of Ma.  Bless Ma, She was doing it to appease all of us. She needn't have bothered, she already had. In-between the "this' and the that's", we were researching anything we could find on Ovarian, Uterine, Cervical, All the Gynecological Cancers. While trying to find the color of  Ovarian Cancers ribbon, we were beyond horrified to read what we had found. Not to mention, utter LACK of resources for these debilitating forms of Cancers. Teal, the ribbon color, is SHARED with ten, yes 10 other GROUPS.
Oh that was very mind blowing! Unfortunately, it was just the tip of the iceberg.
We also read that we were inevitably going to lose Ma. There were no treatments that were going to help. We were going to lose her quickly. We did. 21 days later.

One day while I was sitting on the bed, chatting off ma's ear. I had an epiphany  I told her I was going to start foundation in her honor that will raising awareness of Ovarian, Cervical & Gynecological Cancers. She giggled, patted my leg, and said " okay sweetie, whatever you say." I retorted, " I mean it MOM!" She just smiled.
Now I have to explain why she did that. ANY body who knows me, knows I have a basket, NEH, a room of UN-finished projects.
So she was well... letting me off the hook for "when I didn't start the foundation"  haahaa.
Brett ( my wonderful husband, & Judie's youngest son of two ) and I were trying to decided on a name for the foundation. We tossed, many names around. We finally decided on Tordis. How we decided on Tordis' Hope Foundation, was even better. We decided to use Ma's name, but we wanted to personalize the foundation. So hence the Tordis ( ' ) Hope Foundation. It's her hope that no one else will go through that someday. When we choose that name, we got chills. We then knew we were on the right path.
She was diagnosed on February 8, 2010 and on February 27, 2010 her short but valiant battle was over.
As Ma would've said, she "went on to the Halls of Valhalla".  Ma's parents were both born in the old country of Norway which is where the name "Tordis" comes from.  Tordis is a honorable Norsk name. It's a compound of the god Thor's name and "lis" meaning Goddess. Combined Tordis is Thor's Goddess. Judie exemplified the honor of her name and is truly missed.

Above are family and friends who are just like family. Below are pictures of some of Judie's favorite places. Which in reality are all of our favorite. I am sure you can feel the love flowing from the pictures! Norwegians! What an amazing group of people.
